Formed in the late Miocene, the silica sands in the Hohenbocka region have been in widespread use in the glass and foundry industries for many years. The plant burned down shortly before Christmas 2006, but production resumed in April 2008.
The following types of silica sand are produced here: HB 32, HB 33, HB 34, HB 04 S, HB 04, HB 14 and HB 24. At the moment it only wet sand is available; the drying facility is scheduled to resume operation in a few weeks.
