Silica is a substance found naturally in the environment. Its uses are many and varied. In one form or another, silica is used by practically everyone on the planet. However, the processing of silica can generate dust. If this dust is so microscopically fine that it can lodge in the pulmonary alveoli when breathed in, it is referred to as “fine silica dust”.
Even though critical exposure to fine dust occurs primarily during the processing of silica-bearing minerals, and not during its mining or preparation, we have decided to introduce certain safeguards with regards to our silica/cristobalite flours.
Thus we have given an “Xn R48/20” coding (warning: danger of serious health problems if breathed in over long periods) to those of our products with a greater-than-10% content of silica particles small enough to pass into the alveoli. We do this to satisfy our fiduciary duty to our customers and the public, as well to comply with
European norms and practices.
The products are coded with an “X” (St. Andrew’s Cross) and the following warnings are affixed:.jpg)
We have amended our safety data sheets accordingly.
